Taipa New Town

The master plan is derived explicitly from the urban fabric of Taipa Island to which the New Town is connected and the city of Macao situated across a shallow navigable water channel. Extending the established circulation grids and reinforcing view corridors to historic landmarks, the proposed plan seeks to introduce both a logical and natural development for Taipa in response to housing shortages within the existing landmasses.

By adopting grid patterns to important monuments the new plan mitigates the visual and environmental impact of a development designed to add as much as 600,000 sq. meters of residential units. The proposal concentrates this new housing along broad avenues terminating in two major commercial centers containing shopping, theaters, and a five-star hotel. Treelined esplanades and recreational venues are interspersed throughout a variety of open spaces that invite the immediate community and broader public to enjoy this waterfront setting.
