The China Institute in America Headquarters in New York City occupies 30,000 sq.ft on two floors of an office building near the World Trade Center Memorial Park. The space allows an expansion of the Institute’s growing Chinese language program as well as its renowned art gallery exhibitions and lecture series.

The China Institute in America was founded in New York City in 1926 by American educators John Dewey, Paul Monroe, and Chinese scholars Hu Shi and Kuo Ping-Wen. It is an internationally renowned U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to deepening the world’s understanding of China through programs in art, business, cuisine, culture, and education。

The China Institute’s Gallery is one of the most highly regarded venues for Chinese art in the U.S. The gallery presents acclaimed thematic exhibitions of masterpieces spanning 5,000 years of China’s history and showcases artwork rarely seen outside China. 

The School of Chinese Studies provides language and cultural instruction for students of all ages and trains educators in the best practices for teaching Chinese in the classroom. The China Institute in America’s public programming offers talks, panel discussions, film screenings, and performances that connect our diverse audiences with leading Chinese and Chinese American artists, authors, filmmakers, historians, and other cultural creators.

There is a 6000 SF multifunction hall on the ground level with direct access from Washington Street. This multiuse space is for cultural activities including lectures, contemporary art installations, music and other performing arts, dinners, and special events. There is also a culinary demonstration kitchen fully equipped with a state-of-the-art appliances, a commercial kitchen, and a Tea House area.

The 2nd level includes an art gallery exhibition, a library, a large room for lectures, classrooms, administrative offices, and support program. The ground level and the 2nd level are connected by a grand staircase.
